Four hundred at Willand and 7,500 at Exeter probably had a lot to do with it.
Getting over five hundred through the turnstiles represents a hell of an improvement for Tivvy. Looking around it seemed a fair few were returnees who hadn't attended a match for a while, for whatever reason. Have to wait and see whether the experience was sufficiently enjoyable for them to come more often...
And still can't believe how much added time the ref played. SIx minutes? Words fail me. What a sickener, when we had battled so well. Much credit due to Rudge, Gardner and Boothy for really putting in a shift at the back against a very industrious and well-drilled attacking side. The speed at which Brackley shifted the ball around was mighty impressive. I thought when they were having the better of the opening exchanges that we were going to be on the wrong end of a footballing lesson, but we competed well, pushed them back and pretty much held them in the middle of the park. Although we scored against the run of play there was never any thought of just sitting back, which made for an entertaining game. No doubt Brackely will say they deserved their equaliser, having laid siege to the Tivvy goal for the last 10 minutes of normal time. But we soaked up all the pressure, and the two saves that Book made were both from shots from outside the area. Job done... and then job undone. Thanks ref.
Oh well. It's only a game...
